What does SRT stand for? SRT is the high-performance arm of Dodge. SRT meaning stands for Street and Racing Technology. SRT’s roots began back in 1990 with Team Viper, the team behind the original Dodge Viper R/T-10. Team Viper merged with Team Prowler, the team behind the Plymouth Prowler. Initially, the group was known as Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) and was later renamed Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) from 2002 to 2004 when it was finally changed to SRT. In the past, SRT was used by Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. (RAM was still part of Dodge until 2008.)
From 2012 to 2014, the SRT subbrand became an independent brand under the Chrysler umbrella with the Dodge Viper now called the SRT Viper. In 2014, SRT returned to being a high-performing subbrand but only under Dodge.
What does Dodge SRT mean? SRT was originally a high-performance trim level used across various MOPAR brands. The number following SRT denoted the number of cylinders in the vehicle’s engine. SRT-4 used 4-cylinder engines, SRT-6 used a V6 engine, SRT-8 models used HEMI® V8 engines, and SRT-10 used V10 engines.
Many vehicles have carried the SRT meaning over the years.
While many think the SRT meaning is only about going fast in a straight line (such as the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon), SRT cars have also been optimized for better handling and better braking on the St. Cloud and Sauk Centre streets as well as the track.
While there may be some differences between the current Dodge SRT models, some of the performance-enhancing equipment include:
SRT means speed and performance for the Street, Race, and Track!
